The Duttons faced new challenges in the early 20th century, including the expansion of the West, Prohibition, and the Great Depression. While the Great Depression began in America in 1929, it began early in Montana. The Great Depression began in Montana in 1918, almost a decade before the rest of the country. While the rest of America prospered, Montana struggled. Between drought and reduced demand for agricultural products, due to the end of the “Great War” (also known as World War I, from 1914 to 1918), many farmers suffered greatly. As a result, Montana farmers defaulted on war loans, leading to widespread bank failures throughout the state. Between 1921 and 1925, half of Montana’s farmers lost their land. By 1925, 70,000 of Montana’s 82,000 settlers had left. In addition, 200 banks in Montana have failed. The drought not only affected crops, but also caused locusts to invade and cattle to become infected. He appears in Indiana Jones & The Last of Us (2023). Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Sounds like a recipe for success. And it is. The Duttons are once again struggling to maintain their way of life on their Montana farm. Patriarch (Harrison Ford) Jacob Dutton fights much the same battles that John Dutton (Costner) fought in Yellowstone. Very funny. There are two other very interesting threads to this story. One is Spencer Dutton. A disillusioned World War I veteran. Now a hunter in Africa. Spencer meets an English girl whom he likes. Suddenly these two find out they have to travel from Mogadishu, Somalia to Montana. Should be easy… The second arc tells the story of a school where Native American girls are molested by Catholic priests and nuns. This part was very unpleasant to watch. There was a bit of revenge, which made it somewhat watchable… Usually I judge TV series by season 1. Not this time. I didn’t like the last episode. Explaining why it would be a spoiler. But I’m going to watch the second season. I have to…
