Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of crossing the line with his best friend in elementary school. category of the 97th Academy Award ceremony in 2025. Norwegian films tend to meet low international standards, but here we have a film that also manages to reach an exceptionally low Norwegian standard. This is a truly rare achievement. For the most part, the film looks as if it was shot by first-year film school students. These students decided to create an experimental film unlike anything seen before, and they succeeded. However, they forgot something. Among other things, they forgot that even in bad films, there are usually some tricks in the script that keep the viewer in suspense until the end – some exciting plots or other cinematic techniques. There is neither one nor the other in this film. It’s just extremely bad. In addition, it is undoubtedly the cheapest film ever made. Expenses are limited to actors, cameramen, lighting and sound operators, and there is no one in any wall with technical problems. If you are strong enough to hold a camera and a microphone, you can make this film. The action of the film takes place entirely in the corridors and rooms of the school. They didn’t even bother with sets. This is a school, a district school, and most likely they borrowed it for free. The actors don’t exactly do a bad job. But it’s hard for actors to play frankly badly – it takes an extremely bad director to make actors look bad. So, strictly speaking, it’s not about the actors. it’s my fault that the movie is terrible. However, since they agreed to take on these roles, part of their cinematic track record will be that they appeared in the film “Arman” at 0 simply because it does not deserve a 1. By the way, this is Norway’s contribution to the Oscars this year. The Norwegian Oscar committee decided that this is the best film shot in Norway this year. How they came to such a conclusion is a mystery, given that there were many bad Norwegian films made this year, but “Arman” is the worst. There are many bad Norwegian films to choose from, and they are much better than this one. For those who do not know, there are no international actors in Norway. For comparison, there are even dozens of them in Sweden and Denmark. This film, with its trip to the USA and nomination for the Oscar for the best foreign film, demonstrates to the entire film industry that Norway is, for many practical purposes, a country without a functioning film environment.
